Basic Radio Reminders

All initial calls to control should be as followed: "Control this is corner (insert corner), (insert flag condition)".

The reason is that the initial call needs to be as above is that Control is often in a noisy room and needs that split second when you say "Control this is" (the throwaway part of you call) to concentrate on the corner number and flag condition.

When you take over the radio, mentally rehearse what you will say for various incidences. When the s*** hits the fan, you will be prepared and you will sound like a pro every time.

When calling control, push the transmit button and wait one second before speaking. Many radio systems use a repeater system than need to be "turned on" before a message can be sent.

NEVER SAY RED on the radio. Control is the ONLY person that can say red. Corners use the word CRIMSON. A $2.00 donation to the beer fund if you say red on the radio before control calls for a red flag.

Never give an injured riders condition, name or ambulance crews actions over the radio. Do give a time estimate for when your corner may be clear. Also when an ambulance is called, no chit chat over the radio. Medical needs priority use to control. A ride off and on at another corner can be reported after the ambulance leaves the track.

Remember pit crews, significant others, parents, media and spectators are listening to you on the scanner so use your words wisely.
